About Lucie Desmond

Candidate for Director-at-Large for the upcoming 2024-2026 term

Ron and I moved to Tubac full-time in 2015 to care for my elderly Father and we learned how to play Pickleball the very same year. We started playing in the Barrio Parking lot, moved to the Basketball courts at the Community Center because we were tired of chasing the balls down the street! Myself and a group of Tubac residents organized Tubac Pickleball Club in 2018. I was elected President in 2020 – with the help of my beloved Board we have accomplished so much; Mission Statement, Bylaws and Code of Conduct. We also tackled safety issues with new barriers, resurfacing, accessibility and secured all the fencing. Accomplishments over the years: I created Skills and Drills, for TPC to drill together…it morphed into a beginners platform where they felt comfortable learning the sport of Pickleball, developing new friendships and became an opportunity to learn more about Tubac Pickleball Club.

Secondly brought the APPL League to TPC, adding an element of competition to recreational play. Our Tubac Teams have doubled in size and hopefully next year would love to have a 4.0 Women’s team and hopefully bring back the 4.0 Men’s team. Our players have exploded with talent and determination. My final accomplishment is becoming an USA Pickleball Ambassador and to have the opportunity to give back mainly to the youth. I have been coaching for 3 years at Continental, Wrightson and Sahuarita Middle Schools. Last week I did a workshop in Tucson “Teach the Teachers” we had 15 PE Teachers from Amphi School District learning how to teach middle schoolers Pickleball. They hope to incorporate Pickleball into their 2024/2025 curriculum.

Thank you for your consideration, Lucie
